The sewing machine was unpacked first.
I'm mostly settled into my new place, and true to form, the first item of furniture I bought was a cute little desk for my sewing machine. While I avoid writing papers and presentations for my professional life, I have jumped head first into several of the sewing projects I've been dreaming up for the past few months. Up first is this adorable dress from McCalls 5927. I chose to make view C with cap sleeves and attached fabric tabs around the neckline. I made fabric covered buttons for the first time, which was fun, easy, and adds a nice finished look to the outfit. I used a thick woven cotton that I got for cheap at a place that calls itself "fabric by the pound." I love the color, and also the thickness of the fabric--which I think helps give the pleats and other details some nice structure. The skirt features pockets at the hip, which I also love. The only thing I don't love about this dress is that, once again, I managed to butcher the back a bit as I installed the zipper. It seems that anytime I go a few months without installing a zipper, I completely forget everything I previously learned. Sigh. I think it's still wearable, and it does look super cute from the front. I'd definitely recommend this pattern to others!

Adorable! I love the collar detail--very retro. Fabric by the Pound is a treasure trove. Have you delved into the ribbon and trim section (my personal favorite area) yet?
Looks great on you!
That dress is absolutely stunning!
You are right the dress is adorable, it is a great color on you. With zippers, practice is the key!
The tabs with buttons around the neckline make the dress so unique. I look for patterns with interesting details that set a garment apart from the rest, such as this. You did a very nice job. It looks great on you, and the fabric choice is perfect.
That is sosososososo cute. Absolutely no one will notice the zipper. And you can always wear an open cardi if you feel like hiding it!
Hi Megan.- how are you? I hope that all is well for you. The dress is fabulous. ahhhh .. the sewing forgotten, truth. I have to make a pocket (for example) that have done long ago, and I have to start thinking a long time.
greetings, Paco
super super cute.
I LOVE this dress! I haven't pulled out my sewing machine for awhile, but you've completely inspired me. I totally struggle with zippers, though. It's been the ruin of many projects. I don't know why I can't do them! Sigh. I need demos.
It looks a lovely dress!
cute! i especially like the colour.
This is lovely! I have this pattern and was just looking on the internet to see previous versions - yours is so cute!
