It reminds me of something my mom used to make...green beans into which she cracked eggs, one per person...for the eggs. I'll have to get the recipe from her. The flavors would be different...Azorean...a tomato paste, diced onion, garlic, a fresh crushed red pepper she made and canned, paprika, olive oil. And thanks for the link to the book.
